One of the most anticipated sporting events of the year is coming to Glasgow and the city is buzzing! The European Championships 2018 is a thrilling event which occurs every four years and 2018 is Glasgow’s turn to host. Berlin will also be co-hosting with the athletics competitions; however, all other competitions will take place in Glasgow and surrounding areas of Scotland.
Comprised of six core events, 4200 of Europe’s most talented athletes from 52 nations will come together to compete in nerve-wracking competitions. Sports include aquatics, golf, gymnastics, rowing, a triathlon and cycling.

The cycling portion of the Championships will bring a variety of swift and exhilarating events including road cycling where Europe’s top road cyclists will take on the streets of Glasgow City Centre, East Dunbartonshire and Stirling. These races follow time trial events in a variety of distances where competitors try to complete the longest distance in the set time. Stop by and spectate as this event is free!
If you’re looking for gripping outdoor action, then the mountain biking is something that shouldn’t be missed. Witness incredible talent amidst beautiful Scottish scenery at the renowned Cathkin Braes Mountain Bike Trails. The energy of the crowds is always buzzing, and this competition makes for a great day out.
If you wish to continue to the suspenseful excitement, head on over to Glasgow BMX Centre to witness electrifying, speedy, unyielding competition. The tournament is comprised of races with three rounds of qualifying heats also known as motos where up to eight participants compete, with top scorers making it through to knockout rounds.
Track Cycling is another fascinating sport to watch and a popular favourite amongst spectators. With events being held at the Chris Hoy Velodrome Emirates Arena in Glasgow, this fast-paced, intense event is made up of a variety of competitions which include Omnium, Team Pursuit, Team Sprint and Scratch Race. Be a part of the excitement from the sidelines where you can witness every second of the action.
In addition to the unmissable sports taking place in Glasgow, the city will host a programme of fun-filled festival events throughout the duration of the European Championships 2018. Concerts, street processions and pop-up food markets are just a few of the many entertaining events taking place.
